HB.IHYSM.YSADA
2011
Animation, Video Arts, Fine Arts
HB.IHYSM.YSADA. is a video interpretation of a game played by two friends over the internet. To play the game, one player types the first letter of every word of a phrase. By use of deductive reasoning, the second player attempts to discover the sentence. This playful video is a demonstration of desired meaning and desired meaning of self-perception. The sentence 'HB. IHYSM.YSADA.' reads 'Honey Bunny, I hate you so much. You're such a dumb ass.' During the course of the guessing process, the opposing player assumes the 'YS' of 'you're such a dumb ass" is "You're sexy". At this point laughter ensues between the players, both realizing the implications of his assumption. As a secondary point of interest, this video demonstrates the contagiousness of laughter.

A lecture was recorded on the critique of space given by Matthew McGarvey at CalArts. Each word the McGarvey says is typed and synced to the sound of the lecture. Anytime the professor says a word appearing in his lecture notes, a copy of that word from his lecture notes appears in addition to what is typed. Anytime the professor says a word that appears in my notes, a copy of that word from my lecture notes appears in addition to what is typed. The background of each film consists of the following: textures of the papers used/notes themselvesThe installation focuses on the transfer of information and the organization of information. How an individual organizes his/her information and how they understand it best in order to use that information as a trigger for the information stored to communicate a larger body of information and how that information is transferred to another individual and how that individual transfers those ideas verbally communicated into an organized system that demonstrates their understanding of the information transferred.

  • LASER NON LASER
LASER NON LASER is a video installation mimicking lasers by projecting an animation of green lines onto a mirror into a room full of fog. The effect of the fog in the room turns the green dots or rectangles of the video projection into 20-100 foot long 'beams' of light intended to encapsulate the spectator' body. The projection is directed toward the entry point of the gallery creating a vortex around the viewer. The viewer can chose to remain in the space optimized for a visceral experience or can view it from a side view, allowing them to witness the full magnitude of the length and width of the projected beams of light.

  • LIMITATIONS
‘Limitations’, is a 15 ft film loop of animated scratch, shot not frame-by-frame but in increments, one millimeter at a time. Using only this 15-foot loop, Jeanette created a longer piece, subject to certain rules; the two key rules being that the loop can only be presented in rectangular format; and that the loops, when in motion, cannot touch.

  • OED:RES IPSA
OED:RES IPSA(14 minute video plus wall installation)
This installation is an investigation of the hidden narrative within a given subject.
'OED: RES IPSA’, was made by photographing and sequencing as a film each page of the Oxford English Dictionary. In the installation the animation is projected on to one wall of a room to the sound of a Teletype. All the physical pages of the dictionary arepinned to the remaining walls. ‘OED” was inspired by the story of Dr William Chester Minor, an Civil War era insane asylum inmate who contributed a large proportion of the entries to the dictionary and originated the idea of the “catchphrase” (the words at the top of the page, e.g. antelope-aardvark). Because his letters, sent from the asylum, were signed Dr Chester Minor, the editors assumed him to be an employee of the asylum.

  • 14.7 PSI
14.7 psi’, which is the number of pounds per square inch that pressure increases per 33 feet of diving, is an animation of 100 copies of a single photograph. Jeanette created a hundred layers from a photograph of stars and animated them against each other whilst animating the hues in each layer. Inspired by an underwater experience and with a music track by Duane Pitre, this aims to produce a physical reaction in the spectator.

  • DRAFT
DRAFT is a video installation designed for either a wall or a flat screened television. For maximum experience, an entire wall is recommended. DRAFT was created by the sole use of 3 line drawing and 3 photographs of sea port textures. Each line in each drawing was isolated and sequenced to create a meditative loop.

  • ENSEMBLE
ENSEMBLE is a hand drawn and puppet animation. The animation occurs in 4 sections. In the first section, a collection of snail tails creep onto the screen from the bottom and top mimicking kelp movements. In the second section, a hand pen and ink drawn tree grows up from the soil. In the third section, several copies of a single cartographic figure run across the screen from right to left while a strobe effect impales the viewer. In the final section, the entire figure of the snails are shown falling from the sky.
